The Ludlow Hart.
This has to be one of the finest reproductions we have in our collection taken from an original medieval carving found from within the Cathedrals and Churches of Great Britain. This is of a Hart at rest and taken from the main central carving on the Misericord with Dogs as the two supports. The adult Hart is the symbol of Richard II and is one of the most popular misericord carvings in St. Laurence’s Church attracting many visitors from around the world each year. The carving is in very good condition for being almost six hundred years old and our reproduction captures all the fine detail and colour tone of the original and shows the remarkable skills of the craftsmen that carved this animal in the medieval period. This misericord was carved in the mid 15th century between 1433 – 1470 when work was carried out during a major rebuilding project to the church which saw an extended chancel and the height of the nave increased. The carving is in remarkable condition for being almost six hundred years old and the reproduction captures all the fine detail of the original.
